Two Mililani Chess Club Directors receive Governor's appointments

Governor appoints MCC President/ HCF Scholastic Director Guy Ontai to the University of Hawaii Research Corp.  Guy received his Senate confirmation and will go on to serve.

Governor appoints MCC Vice President/ HCF President Randy Prothero to Hawaii Civil Defense Advisory Council.  Randy also received his Senate confirmation and began his 4 year term on July 1, 2005.



Robert Lau does it again, he is the 9th Grade U.S. Champion!

Governor Linda Lingle Declares

Robert Lau Day!

Governor Lingle signed an official proclamation declaring February, 17, 2003 Robert Lau Day.  This recognized his extraordinary accomplishment of becoming Hawaii's first National Chess Champion, along with his many achievments leading up to that victory. Robert was presented the official proclamation at the 4x4 Presidents Team Interscholastic Tournament at Aliamanu Middle School on Robert Lau Day.  Lt. Governor Duke Aiona presented the proclamation on behalf of Governor Lingle and also assisting in the presenting the trophies and medals at the conclusion of the event.  Robert Lau went on to win the event.


Robert Lau becomes 6th Grade National Champion,
Hawaii's first National Champ!
For the third time in a 12 month period, local youth chess champion Robert Lau wins a National Event! At the National Scholastic K-12 Grade Championships, held December 13-15, 2002 in Atlanta, Georgia, Mililani's Robert Lau takes the K-6 grade level section.  He topped the field of 238 players with the only perfect 6-0 score.

In the faster paced Blitz event Robert finishes in eighth place with a score of 8-2 in a field of 172 players.

Besides his three 1st place finishes Robert has also had two 2nd place finishes in National competition. Emily Lau, former Hawaii Intermediate School State Champion goes 4-2 to finish tied for 13th through 22nd place in a field of 79 players in the K-10 section of the National K-12 Grade Championships in Atlanta.
